Saviour, when in dust to thee
Saviour, when in dust to thee. (Sir) Robert Grant* (1780-1838).
First published in the Christian Observer (November, 1815). It was one of the twelve hymns in Sacred Poems. By the late Right Honourable Sir Robert Grant (1839), published after his death by his brother, Charles Grant, Lord Glenelg*. It is a versified Litany in five stanzas, suitable for Lent but also for other times of penitence. It appeared, with slight alterations, in Church Hymns (1871, 1874). It was included in the Second Edition of A&M (1875), and remained in A&M until it was dropped from A&MNS. It was also printed in EH and MHB, both of which follow Grant’s original wording.
