Sarah Laurie Findlater
FINDLATER, Sarah Laurie (née Borthwick). b. Edinburgh, 26 November 1823; d. Torquay, 25 December 1907. She was the daughter of James Borthwick, manager of the North British Insurance Office. In 1861 she married Eric John Findlater (1813-1866), minister of the Free Church of Scotland at Balquhidder, Perthshire. After her husband’s death in 1886, Sarah moved to Prestonpans, East Lothian, with her three daughters, two of whom became successful novelists. The family moved to Torquay in 1899.
She was the younger sister of Jane Borthwick*, with whom she collaborated to produce Hymns from the Land of Luther, a series of four small books containing translations of German hymns (Edinburgh, 1854,...
