Samuel F. Smith

SMITH, Samuel Francis. b. Boston, Massachusetts, 21 October 1808; d. 16 November 1895. He was educated at the Eliot School and the Latin School, both at Boston, and at Harvard (AB 1829); then at Andover Seminary, Mass. He became a Baptist minister, and from 1834 to 1842 he was pastor at Waterville, Maine, and professor of modern languages at Waterville College (now Colby College). He was pastor of the Baptist Church at Newton, Mass. (1842-54), and editorial secretary of the American Baptist Missionary Union (1854 onwards).
