Ruth Watson Henderson

HENDERSON, Ruth Louise Watson. b. Toronto, 23 Nov 1932. Internationally renowned composer, pianist and church musician, she was educated at the Toronto Conservatory of Music (1937-52) and the Mannes College of Music in New York (1952-4).  In 2003 she was awarded an honorary Fellowship in the Royal Canadian College of Organists. From 1998 to 2013, Henderson served as organist and choir director at Kingsway Lambton United Church in Toronto. The elegance, melodic beauty and sensitivity to the text that permeate her choral writing, are echoed in her hymn tunes.  BIRCHVIEW and HASTINGS appear in VU.
