Russell E. Schulz-Widmar
SCHULZ-WIDMAR, Russell E. b. Hebron, Illinois, 29 July 1944. Born into a family of Dutch and German immigrants, Schulz-Widmar was educated at Valparaiso University in Indiana (BMus, 1966); the School of Sacred Music at Union Theological Seminary in New York (MSM, 1968); the University of Texas at Austin (DMA, 1974); and post-doctoral study at the Royal School of Church Music, London/Croydon, UK. Active as a church musician in Austin, he lectured on church music at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and was professor of Liturgical Music at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest (1974-2010); the latter conferred the LHD in 2012.
