Round the earth the message runs. Jan Struther* (1901-53).
Written for SofPE (1931), where it was included in the section entitled ‘Easter Day to Ascension Day’, although it is an Easter hymn. With its reference to spring (verse 1), liberty (verse 2), peace (verse 3), and the coming of the kingdom (verse 4), it is a remarkably buoyant hymn. After SofPE it has been used mainly in the Congregational/URC tradition, and it is found in CP and RS. As the Companion to RS (1999) says (p. 314), ‘its cheerful words deserve more...
