Rory Cooney
COONEY, Rory Patrick. b. Delaware, Ohio; 29 May 1952. Rory Cooney, a Catholic liturgist and church music composer, was born to Patrick F. Cooney, Sr. (d. 1993) and Martha Ann Cooney Larsen (née Dunlap, d. 2024), postal service employees. Rory was one of four siblings and three step-siblings. In 1957, the family moved from Ohio to Phoenix, Arizona.
Cooney’s musical journey began at St Vincent de Paul Catholic School, where the Daughters of Charity introduced him to Gregorian Chant. His time as a chorister in the David Windsor Boys’ Choir further deepened his love for church music.
