Robert Willis
WILLIS, Robert Andrew. b. Bristol, 17 May 1947; d. New Haven, Connecticut, 22 October 2024. The son of Thomas Willis (who worked in the aircraft industry) and Vera, née Britton, he was educated at Kingswood Grammar School, Bristol, Warwick University, Worcester College, Oxford (Diploma in Theology), and Cuddesdon College. He was ordained (deacon 1972, priest 1973), serving a curacy at St Chad’s, Shrewsbury (1972-75). He was then Vicar Choral of Salisbury Cathedral and Chaplain of the Cathedral School (1975-78), rector of Tisbury, Wiltshire (1978-87), vicar of Sherborne Abbey, Dorset (1987-92), Dean of Hereford (1992-2001), and Dean of Canterbury (2001-2022).
