Richard Wilbur
WILBUR, Richard Purdy. b. New York City, 1 March 1921; d. Belmont, Massachusetts, 14 October 2017. Wilbur grew up at North Caldwell, New Jersey: he was educated at Montclair High School and Amherst College, before serving with the US army in France and Germany (1943-45). On demobilization he studied for an MA at Harvard, where he became a Junior Fellow (1947-50) and an Assistant Professor of English (1950-54). He was an Associate Professor at Wellesley College (1955-57), and Professor at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut (1957-77).
