Richard Thomas Bewes

BEWES, Richard Thomas. b. Nairobi, Kenya, 1 December 1934; d. Virginia Water, Surrey, 10 May 2019. He was educated at Marlborough College, Emmanuel College, Cambridge (BA 1958, MA 1961), and Ridley Hall, Cambridge (deacon 1959, priest 1960). He was appointed OBE in 2005. After a curacy in Beckenham, Kent (1959-65) he held incumbencies at Harold Wood, Essex (1965-74) and Northwood, Middlesex (1974-83), before becoming Rector of All Souls, Langham Place, London (1983-2004). He was also a Prebendary of St Paul's Cathedral (1988-2004) and Chairman of the Church of England Evangelical Council (1992). A prolific author, he had 20 books published between 1973 and 2001.
