Richard Massie
MASSIE, Richard. b. Chester, 18 June 1800; d. Pulford, Cheshire, 11 March 1887. He was the eldest son of an ancient and wealthy family (‘Massie of Coddington’ in Burke’s Landed Gentry). His father, Richard Massie (1771-1854), a Cheshire vicar, had twenty-two children, of whom eighteen survived into adulthood. Richard, the father, was a graduate of St John’s College, Cambridge, but there is no record of Richard, the son, matriculating at either Cambridge or Oxford (although some of his brothers did).
