Richard Granville Jones

JONES, Richard Granville. b. Dursley, Gloucestershire, 26 July 1926. He was educated at Truro School and St. John’s College, Cambridge. After service in the Royal Navy, he went to Hartley Victoria College, Manchester, entering the Methodist Ministry in 1950. He worked with the Student Christian Movement (1953-55) and then served in Circuits in Sheffield (1955-64) and Birkenhead (1964-69) before returning to Hartley Victoria College as Tutor and subsequently Principal (1978-82). He was Chairman of the East Anglia District of the Methodist Church, 1983-93, and President of the Methodist Conference, 1988-89. He was awarded an honorary DD by the University of Hull in 1988.
