Richard Godfrey Parsons
PARSONS, Richard Godfrey. b. Pendleton, near Clitheroe, Lancashire, 12 November 1882; d. Hereford, 26 December 1948. He was educated at Durham School and Magdalen College, Oxford (BA Literae Humaniores - Classical Literature and Philosophy - 1905, Theology 1906), followed by post-graduate work and a short period studying under Joseph Armitage Robinson* at Westminster. He took Holy Orders (deacon and priest 1907), and was appointed chaplain of University College, Oxford (1907-11). He was made principal of Wells Theological College at the age of 29 in 1911, serving there until he became a temporary army chaplain during the First World War (1916-17). He was vicar of Poynton, Cheshire (1916-19)...
