Regina coeli
Regina coeli. Latin, date unknown.
This short antiphon begins ‘Regina coeli laetare, Alleluia’. It is one of the four antiphons to the Blessed Virgin Mary (the others are ‘Alma Redemptoris Mater’*, ‘Ave regina coelorum’* and ‘Salve, regina’*). JJ gives reference to a MS of 1372 (p. 954). It is printed in a text of four lines, each ending with ‘Alleluia’, in Daniel, Thesaurus Hymnologicus II. 319, with a note saying that it was to be sung at the Easter season (‘Gaude et laetare virgo Maria All. [Alleluia] Quia Dominus surrexit vere canitur tempore paschali’).
