Praise the One who breaks the darkness. Howard (‘Rusty’) Edwards* (1955- ). Written 1986, and copyrighted by Hope Publishing Co., 1987. It has since appeared in a large number of hymnals. Edwards said that it was written at a time when he had written more tunes than texts, and that in writing ‘Praise the One who breaks the darkness’ he was feeling his way: ‘I wish I could take credit for the wide use of the hymn, but I really can’t.
