Powerful in making us wise to salvation. Christopher Martin Idle* (1938- ).
Written in two stages (1974, 1977) during Idle’s incumbency of two London parishes, Poplar and Limehouse, this was first published in the Scripture Union’s Songs for Worship (1980). It is based on 2 Timothy 3: 15-17, expounded in dignified contemporary language. It was in HFTC (1982), and appeared immediately afterwards in HP. It has since appeared in several British books, set to many tunes. In the USA it is found in The Worshiping Church (Hope Publishing Company, 1990), edited by Donald P. Hustad*.
