Philip Burnett
BURNETT, Philip Timothy. b. Cape Town, South Africa, 1981.
Philip Burnett is a music historian and hymnologist specializing in postcolonial study of the Anglican-Xhosa hymn traditions in Southern Africa and East Africa. He was a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow at the University of York (UK) from 2022 to 2026, and is an Associate Lecturer in Music at University College, Oxford.
Dr Burnett holds the following degrees from Rhodes University, Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown), Eastern Cape, South Africa: a BA in music, legal theory, and German (2002); a BA (Honours) in music (2003); and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (2004).
