Pass away, earthly joy
Pass away, earthly joy. Jane Catherine Bonar* (1821-1884).
This hymn was published in Horatius Bonar*’s Songs for the Wilderness, Second Series (1844) and The Bible Hymn-Book (1845) (JJ, p. 152). The text was preceded by ‘“Make haste, my beloved” – Song . viii. 14.’ , referring to the Song of Solomon, where it begins the last verse of the last chapter. It had four stanzas:
Pass away, earthly joy, Jesus is mine! Break every mortal tie, Jesus is mine! Dark is the wilderness; Distant the resting-place; Jesus alone can bless: - Jesus is mine!
