O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. John Samuel Bewley Monsell* (1811-1875). First published in Monsell’s Hymns of Love and Praise for the Church’s Year (1863), and altered by him (omitting the ‘O’ in verse 1 line 1) in The Parish Hymnal after the Order of The Book of Common Prayer (1873). Most hymnbooks have used the 1863 text.
In Hymns of Love and Praise it was headed ‘Fourth Sunday after Easter’. In The Parish Hymnal Monsell headed it ‘Third Sunday aft. Epiphany. – Morn.’ ‘Also 7th Sunday after Trinity’.
