O think of the home over there. DeWitt Clinton Huntington* (1830-1912).
This hymn is sometimes known as ‘Watching and Waiting for me’. It was published in Fresh Leaves for the use of Sabbath Schools (New York, Cincinnati, Chicago, St Louis, 1868), edited by Tullius Clinton O’Kane (1830-1912) (Hymnary.org). The words were written earlier. The date of writing the hymn is unknown, but O’Kane’s description of composing the tune suggests that he had had the text in his files for some time: ‘He cut this hymn out of some newspaper and put it with others in his portfolio, intending at some time when he felt like it to give it a musical setting’ (Hall, 1914, pp. 61-2).
