O sing a new song
O sing a new song. David George Preston* (1939- ).
This metrical version of Psalm 96 was written ca. 1984 while the author was at Reading, teaching French. He was also working on the collection of paraphrases which he edited, published in 1986 as The Book of Praises. Most of them were new versions, and Preston was responsible for over half of these as well as some adaptations of older authors. This text was first published in that book.
The tune originally recommended was Henry John Gauntlett*’s HOUGHTON; of subsequent books to include the text, the author’s own GRAZELEY, composed in the same year as the words, appeared in Praise! (2000), while Sing Glory (1999) opted for PADERBORN and...
