O Saviour of the world, we pray. Latin, 12th or 13th century, translated by William John Copeland* (1804-1885). This hymn for Compline originally began ‘O Saviour of the world forlorn’. It was based on the Latin hymn, probably of the 12th or 13th century, ‘Salvator mundi Domine’*. It was printed in Copeland’s Hymns for the Week, and Hymns for the Seasons. Translated from the Latin (1848). It was entitled ‘Compline Hymn for the Nativity’.
