O lovely voices of the sky. Felicia Hemans* (1793-1835).
This is the only hymn by Hemans in the British Unitarian Hymns of Worship Revised (1962), and one of only two in modern British Unitarian hymnals (the other was ‘For the strength of the hills we bless Thee’* in HFL ). According to JJ , it was in Hemans’ Hymns for Childhood (1827) and in her Poetical Works (New York, 1828). The edition of 1872 places it in the Miscellaneous Poems in the Project Gutenberg printing of the 1875 Poems (Project Gutenberg: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/66785/66785-h/66785-h.htm).
It was entitled ‘Christmas Carol’. There were three stanzas:
