O Lord of every lovely thing
O Lord of every lovely thing. Robert Wilfrid Callin* (1886-1951).
Written on the eve of the Great War of 1914-1918 in which Callin served with great distinction, this hymn was written for children in July 1914, on the occasion of the Sunday-School Anniversary at the Primitive Methodist Church, Victoria Street, Grimsby. It was then published in a collection published by the PM Church entitled Joyful Songs for use in Mission Services and Young People's Meetings (ca. 1920). Callin served on the committee for this book, and also on the committee for The School Hymn Book of the Methodist Church (1950), in which it also appeared.
