O happy land of Paradise. John Henry Lester* (ca. 1845-ca. 1904). First published in the Lichfield Church Mission Hymn Book (1883). The date of composition is not known. The hymn was subsequently printed in the Mirfield Mission Hymn Book* (1907). It had four stanzas, each beginning ‘O happy land of Paradise!/ Sweet…’. O happy land of Paradise!   Sweet home of rest above, Where faithful souls are satisfied   In God’s eternal love, For Jesus’ sake they laboured on,   And in their toil were blest, And now they reap a rich reward,   For at His side they rest.
