O God, we call. Linnea Good* (1962– ).
‘O God, we call’ (1994) is based on a simple text and a melody built around two notes. Even though the composer employs minimal textual and musical resources, she expresses profound experience deeply woven into human spirituality from ancient times.The abiding appeal of Good’s short song is shown by the fact that it appears in three collections from three different denominational traditions over three decades, including the Canadian collection Voices United (VU, 1996), Agape: Songs of Hope and Reconciliation (Lutheran World Federation, 2003), and the Mennonite hymnal, Voices Together (2020).
