O Durchbrecher aller Bande. Gottfried Arnold* (1666-1714). First published in Arnold’s Göttliche Liebes-Funcken. Aus dem grossen Feuer der Liebe Gottes in Jesu Christo entsprungen und gesammelt von Gottfried Arnold (Frankfurt am Main, 1698). It had eleven stanzas of 8 lines, reduced in EG to eight. It occurs in the ‘Umkehr und Nachfolge’ section of EG, and it is a demanding hymn, showing the influence of the Pietist movement on Gottfried and his contemporaries.
