Now it is evening. Fred Pratt Green* (1903–2000).
This hymn was commissioned by an Over-Sixties Club in England in 1973 for their anniversary celebrations. The Over-Sixties Singing Group soon included it in their performing repertoire (Pratt Green, 1982, p. 54). It was included in The Hymns and Ballads of Fred Pratt Green (Carol Stream, Illinois, 1982) under the title ‘At Evening’. The Disciples of Christ’s Chalice Hymnal (1995) was the first to include it in the USA. Since then, the hymn has appeared in 13 North American Protestant and Catholic hymnals, most recently in the bilingual Santo Santo Santo / Holy Holy Holy (Chicago, 2019) with a translation by George Lockwood* entitled ‘Ya...
