Nicolás Martínez

MARTÍNEZ, Nicolás. b. Buenos Aires, Argentina, 7 October 1917; d. 19 August 1972. Born into a Roman Catholic family, he became an evangelical Christian as a young man. He was educated at the Evangelical Faculty of Theology, Buenos Aires, and in Puerto Rico. He was ordained by the Disciples of Christ in 1948, and worked in Argentina and Paraguay. He was one of the editors of Cantico Nuevo, Himnario Evangelico (Buenos Aires, 1962). Martínez is best known for ‘Christo vive, fuera el llanto’, set to a tune named CENTRAL (after Central Methodist Church, Buenos Aires) by Pablo Sosa* in Cantico Nuevo.
