Morning glory, starlit sky. William Hubert Vanstone* (1923-1999). This profound and moving meditation on divine and human love was written ca. 1976, when the author was curate-in-charge and then vicar of Kirkholt, Greater Manchester. It was printed at the end of Vanstone’s Love’s endeavour, love’s expense: the response of being to the love of God (London, 1977), published in the USA as The Risk of Love (New York, 1978). It was taken up instantly by hymnbook compilers: in Britain it appeared in MHfT (1980) and thus in A&MNS, and in the USA in H82. Since that time it has been printed in many books, including UMH in the USA, and RS, A&MCP,  A&MRW, and REH in the UK. Tunes...
