The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, widely known as the Mormon Church, was established in 1830 with six individuals. Joseph Smith (1805-44) received a series of visions in his teenage years, resulting in a church believed to contain restored doctrines and organizations long lost by disobedient humanity. The Book of Mormon was a document associated with Smith’s revelations and the new church, which together influenced mission work and experienced rapid growth. It also attracted opposition and, in one physical attack in 1844, Smith was killed by a mob.
