Michael Perry
PERRY, Michael Arnold. b. Beckenham, Kent, 8 March 1942; d. Tonbridge, Kent, 9 December 1996. He was educated at Dulwich College, University College, London, Oak Hill College, Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and Southampton University. He was ordained in 1965, serving curacies at St Helens, Lancashire (1965-68) and Bitterne, Southampton (1968-72). He was incumbent of Bitterne (1972-81); Eversley, Hampshire (1981-88); and Tonbridge, Kent (1988-96). He was chairman of the Church Pastoral-Aid Society (1993-96).
He wrote the words and music of ‘Calypso Carol' (‘See him lying on a bed of straw'*) in 1964 while a student; this has proved his most popular work in the UK, notably among schools and...
