Mary Shindler
SHINDLER, Mary Bunce (Dana) (née Palmer). b. Beaufort, South Carolina, 15 February 1810; d. Nacogdoches, Texas, 8 February 1883. An author of several literary and religious books and numerous magazine articles, Shindler also wrote poetry which she set to pre-existing tunes, and published them in The Southern Harp (New York, 1841), The Northern Harp (New York, 1841), and The Western Harp (Boston, 1860). Her other collections included The Temperance Lyre (New York: Dayton & Newman, 1842), Song Book (Boston: Oliver Ditson, 1858), and United States Labor Greenback Song Book (New Rochelle, New York, 1879).
