Mary Ann Thomson
THOMSON, Mary Ann (née Faulkner). b. London, England, 5 December 1834; d. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 11 March 1923. The daughter of an Anglican priest, Mary Faulkner moved to the United States as a girl and married John Thomson, Librarian of the Philadelphia Free Library. They lived in Philadelphia, where she died after many years of family life and writing poetry. They were active members of the (Episcopal) Church of the Annunciation in that city. Most noted for ‘O Zion, haste, thy mission high fulfilling’*, she often published her hymns in periodicals of the Episcopal Church such as The Churchman and The Living Church.
