Martha Matilda Stockton

STOCKTON, Martha Matilda (née Bruestar). b. Washington, North Carolina, 12 June 1821; d. Camden, New Jersey, 18 October 1885. The daughter of Captain Henry Bruestar (sometimes spelt Brusstar), she married William Crooks Stockton (1820-1902), of New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  For some years Stockton was not admitted as a minister because he was married, but he acted as a preacher and revivalist until 1852, when he was admitted on trial to the New Jersey Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. At that time he and his wife lived at Squankum, Pennsylvania (now Williamstown, near Farmingdale). He served during the Civil War as chaplain to the 24th Regiment of New Jersey Volunteers...
