Lord of the home, your only Son
Lord of the home, your only Son. Albert Frederick Bayly* (1901-84).
This was written in 1947 at the request of the author’s wife for the Young Wives’ Fellowship at Hollingreave Congregational Church, Burnley, using the then accepted ‘thou’ form. It was published in Rejoice O People (1950) and in BHB (1962). A modernised version appeared in MHfT (1980) and thus in A&MNS (1983). A revised version was in the author’s Rejoice Together (1982), and also appeared in HP (1983) and A&MCP (2000). Most books omit the original stanza 3:
Pray we that all who with us dwell
Thy love and joy and peace may know;
And while our lips thy praises tell,
May faithful lives thy glory show.
