Lord, make us servants of your peace. James Quinn* (1919-2010).
In keeping with James Quinn’s intention of presenting familiar truths in new words, this is his hymn from the prayer attributed to St Francis of Assisi (see ‘Make me a channel of your peace*). Quinn’s version has appeared in many books since it was published in New Hymns for All Seasons (1969). Some of these were hymnals for Roman Catholics, as might be expected: one of the first was the Catholic Book of Worship III, of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (Ottawa, 1994). Others were Worship (4th Edition, Chicago: GIA, 2011) and the Second Edition of RitualSong (GIA, 2016).
