Lord, listen to your children praying
Lord, listen to your children praying. Ken Medema* (1943- ).
Written in 1970 when Medema was living at Cedar Grove, New Jersey. He has described the origins of the song in an interview (see below). He was with a youth group praying for a young man in hospital, when he began to improvise the four-line stanza. The others joined in, and he added stanzas, which they also sang. It was published in the Christian Reformed Church Psalter Hymnal and other books (Chalice Hymnal, Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW ). Donald P. Hustad* chose it for The Worshiping Church. The Canadian VU prints the first four-line stanza only:
