This is a two-stanza hymn that might be added to the four hymns with this opening line that are discussed in JJ, pp. 686-688. Its theme was described in a Unitarian Collection of Hymns for Publick Worship (Boston, Massachusetts, 1813) as ‘Thanks to God, at the Close of Publick Worship, for the Gospel’. It was headed ‘Thirteenth Metre’ (7.6.7.6.):
Lord, dismiss us with thy blessing, Hope and comfort from above; Let us, each thy peace possessing, Triumph in redeeming love.
Thanks we give, and adoration, For thy Gospel’s joyful sound; May the fruits of thy salvation In our hearts and lives abound.
