Lobet den Herren alle, die ihn ehren. Paul Gerhardt* (1607-1676). This ‘Morgenlied’ (‘morning song’) was first published in Johann Crüger*’ and Christoph Runge*, D.M. Luthers und andere vornehmen geistreichen und gelehrten Männer geistliche Lieder und Psalmen (Berlin, 1653) (the ‘Crüger-Runge Gesangbuch’), in ten 4 or 5-line stanzas (the first line was originally lineated as two), all of which are found in the ‘Morgen’ (‘morning’) section of EG (EG 447). Each one ends ‘Lobet den Herren’ (‘Praise the Lord’). A seven-stanza text is in Gotteslob, omitting stanzas 4, 5 and 9. EG 448 is stanza 1 set as a round, ‘Kanon für 4 Stimmen’, by Herbert Buerle.
