Let saints on earth in concert sing. Francis H. Murray*, based on Charles Wesley* (1707-1788).
In Britain this hymn is probably better known in the version beginning as above than in its original text by Charles Wesley* beginning ‘Come, let us join our friends above’*. Wesley’s magnificent text is still sung by Methodist and Congregationalist/URC worshippers, and was in BHB. In H40 and H82 it is attributed to Charles Wesley.
‘Let saints on earth in concert sing’ is a pale imitation, though elegant and concise, of Wesley’s hymn, first printed in Francis H. Murray*’s A Hymnal for Use in the English Church (1852) with a preceding first stanza:
Let Saints below join Saints above,
