Leonard E. Smith
SMITH, Leonard E., Jr. b. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 29 August 1942. Educated at the Augustinian Catholic Villanova University, Pennsylvania and Mount St Mary’s Seminary, Emmitsburg, Maryland. In the course of five years he was a teacher in three Catholic high schools and one public school, but was dismissed from his post in all of them. According to the Companion to ICH5, he was ‘cutting short his pupils’ assignments and using the remaining time studying God’s Word and teaching the pupils religious songs’ (p. 206). The Psalter Hymnal Handbook uses different words but refer to the same thing: ‘his evangelical efforts in the schools created problems’.
