Leighton George Hayne
HAYNE, Leighton George. b. Exeter, 28 February 1836; d. Bradfield, Essex, 3 March 1883. He read Music at Queen’s College, Oxford (BMus 1856, DMus 1860). He was precentor of Queen’s College (1860-66), during which time he took Holy Orders (deacon 1861, priest, 1862) and was curate of St John the Baptist, Oxford (1864-66). He was briefly vicar of Helston, Cornwall (1866-67) before becoming succentor of Eton College (1867-71). He succeeded his father as (jointly) rector of Mistley and vicar of Bradfield, near Manningtree, Essex, in 1871, remaining there for the rest of his life.
