Lamb of God! our souls adore Thee
Lamb of God! our souls adore Thee. James George Deck* (1802-1884).
First published in an Appendix in the 1841 edition of George Vicesimus Wigram*’s Hymns for the Poor of the Flock (1838). It had seven stanzas, carrying the narrative of the life of Christ, with appropriate reflection. It began:
Lamb of God! our souls adore Thee, While upon Thy face we gaze; There the Father's love and glory Shine in all their brightest rays;Thine almighty power and wisdom All creation’s works proclaim;Heaven and earth alike confess Thee As the ever great I AM.
Stanzas 1-4 were printed in Christian Worship (Exeter, Paternoster Press, 1976). Stanzas 5-7 are normally separated from this to make up the hymn...
