Kenneth Nicholson Naylor
NAYLOR, Kenneth Nicholson. b. Sunderland, County Durham, 25 April 1931; d. 16 June 1991. He was educated at Kingswood School, Bath, and Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he read music. He was music master at the Leys School, Cambridge (1953-80) and at Christ’s Hospital (1980-86). After his death, his tunes were collected by Christopher Solomon, and published in pamphlet form. Solomon hoped that this would make Naylor’s tunes and descants better known, but no publisher is given.
Naylor’s tune EASTVILLE, set to ‘Breathe on me, breath of God’*, is in ICH5 (2000); but he is chiefly known for the splendid COE FEN, named after the open space near the Leys School, and written for John Mason*’s...
