Karl Heinrich von Bogatsky
BOGATSKY, Carl Heinrich von. b. Jantkawe (Jankowa) near Militsch (Lower Silesia), 7 September 1690; d. Halle, 15 June 1774. He was born into a noble Hungarian family which had settled at Jantkawe. His mother, Eva-Eleonore von Kalkreuth, instructed him in his early education and belief. At the age of 14 he was sent as a page to the court of the Duke of Weissenfels: his father’s idea was that he should be given a military education. But in 1714 he came to hear of August Hermann Francke* and his work in Halle, underwent a conversion, and studied theology, although ill-health prevented him from becoming a priest.
