Julia H. Johnston
JOHNSTON, Julia Harriette. b. Salineville, Ohio, 21 January 1849; d. Peoria, Illinois, 6 March 1919. The daughter of Presbyterian pastor Robert Johnston (1813-1864) and Jane Grey Waters Johnston (1815-1899), she was the author of books about Christian missions and missionaries, and several hundred hymns, many of the latter published in her books. Julia attended Peoria High School, was a leader in the church’s Sunday school, as well as the Presbyterian Missionary Society of Peoria. Her books about the works and lives of missionaries include The School of the Master, and Other Religious Verses (New York: A. D. F. Randolph, 1880), The Life of Adoniram Judson, Missionary to Burmah, 1813-1850...
