Josiah Alwood
ALWOOD, Josiah Kelly. b. Harrison County, near Cadiz, Ohio; 15 July 1828; d. Morenci, Michigan; 13 January 1909.
J.K. Alwood, preacher and gospel song composer, was one of nine children born to Ephriam Kelly Allwood (1803–1881) and Elizabeth Salsberry Alwood (1799–1897), natives of Maryland and Pennsylvania, respectively. Though a carpenter by trade, Alwood was determined to receive an education, traveling on horseback to Otterbein College (Waterville, Ohio). Upon arrival at the college, he sold his horse to pay tuition. He served on the Otterbein board in the 1870s.
