Jonathan Burtch Atchinson
ATCHINSON, Jonathan Burtch. b. Wilson, Niagara County, New York State, 17 February 1840; d. Midland City, Ohio, 15 July 1882. The son of Henry M. Atchinson (1807-1889) and Annah Burtch (1805-1884), he served in the Union army during the Civil War, was licensed to preach (1869), and became a ministerial member of in the Genesee Conference [Western New York] (1870). He transferred his membership to the Detroit [Michigan] Conference in 1873. According to the Detroit Conference Journal (1882, p. 36), ‘in the department of Sunday-school work he had a national reputation’: he was editor of the Sunday-school section of the Michigan Advocate, and a contributor to the Sunday Guest.
