Jonathan Battishill
BATTISHILL, Jonathan. b. May 1738; d. 10 December 1801. Battishill was an English organist and composer. He was successively a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, deputy to William Boyce at the Chapel Royal, conductor at Covent Garden, and organist of three London parishes, St Clement Eastcheap and St Martin Orgar from 1764, and Christ Church, Newgate Street from 1767. He was an acclaimed keyboard player, improviser and singer, and held membership of the Madrigal Society, Society of Musicians and the Noblemen’s and Gentlemen’s Catch Club.
